Addison, Texas, hosted its annual Kaboom Town Independence Day celebration on July 3, 2026, drawing half a million visitors to mark America's 250th birthday.
The event transformed the 4.4-square-mile Dallas suburb into a massive festival featuring stunt pilots, live music, family activities, and a legendary pyrotechnic finale.
Air show pilot Mike Gallaway, flying an Extra 300 SX aerobatic plane, said performing in the city center offers a unique experience compared to other venues where air shows are held outside town limits.
"You get to fly right in the city," Gallaway said.
"Oftentimes you fly air shows on the periphery of town, outside of town, but here we're right in the city."
Gallaway added that returning to the local airport where he began his piloting career three decades ago allows him to showcase his aerial maneuvers directly in front of his family and local friends.
"I get to fly in front of my friends and family," he said.
"When you get to fly in a hometown, a home game like this, it's a lot of fun."
According to Gallaway, navigating the airspace above Addison requires strict coordination because pilots must maintain proper altitudes while commercial jets travel into nearby Dallas Love Field airport.
"This is a particularly difficult place to fly aerobatics, and I'll tell you, because you have Southwest Airlines coming in flying at Love Field," he said.
"We do have an air boss that is talking to air traffic control but you sort of have to dodge the jets so you have to be careful.
You can't go too high, you can't go too low, you got to be just at the right altitude."
Town officials expanded the entertainment schedule at Addison Circle Park to include patriotic songs, a customized birthday card installation, and a special flag display honoring all US states and territories.
"It's America's 250th birthday, and it's extra special, so we want to make sure we amp everything," said Faith Alford, a representative for the Town of Addison.
"We added a birthday card, we made sure our live bands were festive and had patriotic songs going.
We want to make this extra special, because you're never going to turn 250 again, it's a milestone!"
The main pyrotechnic presentation lasted more than 20 minutes, featuring synchronized musical choreography broadcast over the radio as thousands of shells illuminated the night sky above the ticketed festival grounds.
"This fireworks display is over 20 minutes, and it's a pyro group that's well known," Alford said. "They've been a part of Kaboom Town!
for decades now.
They go along to a playlist, so you're seeing all this incredible magic just light up the sky.
The last part, the finale, is incredible. That's where they light up the most fireworks.
It's literally like a movie, if you will."
Organizers ensured high energy across the entire park by gathering multiple live music acts and implementing thematic red, white, and blue decor throughout the venue to honor the national milestone.
"We went extra for America's 250th," said Alford. "We ramped it up.
We made sure that everywhere that you look at this park, you are going to see red, white and blue.
The energy is high. We made sure the playlist was right.
We got all of our music acts together, all of that live entertainment together, because we wanted to make sure that this was going to be a special birthday."
The event concluded at 11 p. m.
, with local restaurants along Belt Line Road and the Dallas North Tollway hosting secondary watch parties for attendees without park tickets.
