Egypt national football team manager Hossam Hassan has declared his side ready for the 2026 World Cup Round of 16, with a potential clash against world champions Argentina on the horizon.
Speaking on Friday, July 3, 2026, Hassan emphasized that the Pharaohs are not intimidated by any opponent, including Lionel Messi.

"We are not afraid of anyone, even if it is Messi," Hassan said when asked about the upcoming matchup.
Egypt advanced to the round of 16 for the first time in history after defeating Australia 4-2 in a penalty shootout, following a 1-1 draw at the end of extra time.
The Pharaohs took the lead in the 13th minute through a header from Emam Ashour, assisted by Karim Hafez.
However, Mohamed Hany's own goal while attempting to clear an Australian free kick leveled the score early in the second half.
In the penalty shootout, Mahmoud Saber, Ramy Rabia, captain Mohamed Salah, and Hossam Abdelmaguid all converted their spot kicks, while Australia's Harry Souttar and Lucas Herrington missed.

Hassan dedicated the victory to the Palestinian people, whom he said have constantly supported the team.
He broke down in tears after the match, expressing his only anxiety was for the Egyptian citizens waiting for the result.
"I was only worried about the Egyptian people, what we achieved will be recorded in the history of the World Cup.
The Egyptian fans are the best and most loyal, and they represent the Arab world and Africa.
We represented Egypt, the Arab world, and Africa with all honor," said Hassan.
