Houston city officials are urging soccer fans to use public transit on Saturday afternoon ahead of the city's final 2026 FIFA World Cup match.
The measure aims to prevent severe traffic congestion and navigate extensive road closures.
According to the Houston Office of Emergency Management, congestion will heavily impact areas surrounding the Texas Medical Center and Houston Stadium.
This disruption stems from two separate fan marches scheduled between 8 a. m.
and 11 a. m.
Supporters of Canada and Morocco plan to march through the streets several hours before the Round of 16 match begins.
Affected roadways include Greenbriar Drive between Fannin Street and Old Spanish Trail.
Additionally, closures will impact Fannin Street from Old Spanish Trail to the stadium. Northbound lanes from the 610 South Loop frontage road will also be closed.
To manage the influx, local officials advised commuters heading to the Canada march to ride the red line to Smith Lands Station.
Those participating in the Morocco march should travel to the Fannin South station.
