Spain and Portugal will face each other in a highly anticipated Iberian showdown in Dallas on Monday, July 6, 2026, during the World Cup round of 16.

The match could mark the final international appearance for Cristiano Ronaldo.

Road to the Knockout Stage

Portugal advanced to the knockout phase after a hard-fought 2-1 victory against Croatia in the round of 32.

The Portuguese squad has secured 12 wins in their last 17 matches and conceded no more than one goal in nine of those fixtures.

Reigning European champions Spain reached the round of 16 following a comfortable 3-0 win over Austria.

Under manager Luis de la Fuente, Spain became the first team since Germany in 2014 to prevent any shots on target during a World Cup knockout match.

Spain remains unbeaten in major tournaments under De la Fuente, recording 10 victories and one draw while conceding only four goals across 11 matches.

Their sole defeat since June 2023 came against Portugal via a penalty shootout in the UEFA Nations League final last year.

Key Players and Confidence

The Spanish team features 18-year-old Barcelona star Lamine Yamal, who earned the player of the match award against Austria after playing 85 minutes following a previous hamstring injury.

"I want to progress through the rounds and win with Spain," said Lamine Yamal. "We are not afraid of any team.

We are Spain."

Spain needs one more unbeaten match to equal the longest undefeated streak in the country's football history of 35 matches.

"The World Cup starts now," added Yamal.

Other Round of 16 Matchup

Co-hosts United States will play Belgium at Lumen Field in Seattle, seeking their first quarterfinal appearance since 2002.

The US squad reached this stage after defeating Bosnia and Herzegovina 2-0, but manager Mauricio Pochettino will miss top scorer Folarin Balogun due to a red card.

Belgium enters the match after topping their group with a 5-1 win over New Zealand, overcoming a slow start of two draws.

The Belgian team historically dominates the matchup, having won the last six meetings against the United States in all competitions since 1930.
