FC Barcelona Femeni head coach Pere Romeu signed a two-year contract extension on Thursday, keeping him at the helm of the reigning European champions until June 30, 2028.
The signing took place at president Joan Laporta's office, with board member Xavi Puig and sports director Marc Vives in attendance.
A media conference followed at the Spotify Camp Nou commercial office to discuss upcoming squad planning.
Romeu expressed his satisfaction with the renewal, stating, "I am where I want to be. I cannot be in a better place.
Here I have everything I want, and sometimes when you go outside, you may not find such a healthy environment."
Squad Depth and Transfer Plans
The manager addressed squad depth concerns following the departures of Ona Batlle, Mapi Leon, Alexia Putellas, and Salma Paralluelo.
He also confirmed impending extensions for Caroline Graham Hansen and Marta Torrejon.
"I believe and blindly trust that there will be no more departures from the team, and that is what we all want," Romeu said.
"Regarding signings, we need to replace the positions we have lost. We must bring in an attacker and reinforce the defensive line.
In midfield, we have many players, and the club's obsession should be on the defensive side, bringing in players who allow us to maintain competitive tension, and an attacker to replace Salma."
Romeu emphasized that the club will overcome market challenges by developing younger squad members to take on leadership roles in European competitions.
"Each season is complicated, and every market always raises doubts, but this team has always known how to move forward," he affirmed.
"We will give everything to bring in players that allow us to maintain the competitive tone we so desire."
The manager highlighted that several youth players have already proven their capabilities in major continental fixtures. "Many players will have to take a step forward.
They have already shown they are ready to play big games in Europe, but now they must consolidate and assume that leadership and continuity within the team," he maintained.
Refusing to view the high expectations of managing the European champions as an added burden, Romeu noted his sustained motivation since taking the role in 2024.
"My day-to-day is unbeatable, and in the world of football, it is not easy to find an environment where one feels so comfortable.
The level of demand is extremely high, and the daily work absorbs you completely, so it is essential to feel supported and surrounded by a healthy atmosphere.
Here I have found that coexistence and that balance, and that is why I believe this is the right path," he declared.
Romeu concluded by affirming his energy levels and commitment to maintaining the team's winning mentality over the next two seasons.
"I am very well. If I had thought I had nothing left to contribute, I would have stepped aside.
I am super motivated and convinced that we will continue to fight.
What differentiates this team is its way of competing and the winning gene it has day in and day out.
We cannot lose that."
