Newcastle United winger Harvey Barnes has committed his future to the club by signing a long-term contract extension.
The 28-year-old England international, who joined from Leicester City in July 2023, had two years remaining on his original five-year deal but agreed to extend it ahead of the 2026-27 season.
Barnes registered a career-high 16 goals across 57 appearances last season in all competitions, including six in the Champions League.
That made him Newcastle's joint-second highest scorer in the competition alongside Alan Shearer.
Since joining Newcastle, Barnes has scored 30 goals in 120 appearances, maintaining a strike rate of one goal every four games.
His form earned him a return to the England national team in March 2026 after nearly six years away.
Barnes and Howe React
Barnes expressed his happiness, saying, "It feels great to sign this new contract so early before the new season starts.
It's been an amazing journey so far and I'm delighted to continue that."
He added, "When I first joined the club I quickly learned what a special place it is, but after three years here I know that even more.
I love everything about it – the city, the stadium, the people – and I'm really happy extending my time here."
Head Coach Eddie Howe praised Barnes, stating, "Harvey's new contract is very well deserved and a reflection of the work he's put in and the quality he's shown throughout his three years at Newcastle United."
Howe continued, "Harvey is a player who has consistently produced special moments at vital times for the team.
He's calm in front of goal, whether that's one-on-one or from distance, and is always a threat from wide areas."
Sporting Director Ross Wilson emphasized Barnes' importance, saying, "Harvey's record for the club speaks for itself.
He managed to reach new heights last season on a personal level and that's testament to the mentality and professionalism we see on a daily basis."
Wilson added, "We see him as a big part of our plans going forward, and it made total sense to secure his future.
Much like we've done with Fabian Schär and Sven Botman in recent months, we're delighted to extend that experience into what we see as Harvey's prime years."
Barnes is set to become the club's first-choice left winger following Anthony Gordon's departure to Barcelona in May 2026.
Newcastle also signed Bazoumana Touré from Hoffenheim to strengthen their wing options, with hopes he will complement Barnes well this season.
The contract extension removes any immediate transfer speculation linking Barnes with Aston Villa, who had been searching for attacking reinforcements this summer.
