President Joe Biden will publish a new memoir detailing his administration and his choice to withdraw from the 2024 re-election race.
The book, titled "Promise Me, America," is set for release on November 17, 2026, by Little, Brown and Company, just two weeks after the congressional midterm elections.
Book Details and Promotion
Biden plans to promote the memoir through a tour and interviews, addressing lingering questions about his time in office and personal well-being.
"Promise Me, America is about the challenges we faced as a nation.
It's about the decisions I made and why I made them," Biden said in an official video announcement.
The upcoming publication follows his previous books, including "Promises to Keep" and his 2017 memoir "Promise Me, Dad," which focused on the death of his son, Beau Biden.
"Most of all, it's about my faith in the promise of America," Biden added.
Presidency and Health Challenges
Biden entered office during the Covid-19 pandemic and after the January 6 Capitol riot.
His term was marked by major infrastructure legislation and foreign conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East.
However, his political legacy faced strain after a June 2024 debate against Donald Trump, which heightened scrutiny over his health and led to Kamala Harris replacing him on the ticket.
Former First Lady Jill Biden, in her June 2025 book "View from the East Wing," wrote that her husband appeared heavily disoriented during the debate and noted that initial White House claims he was battling a cold were insufficient.
"The biggest lesson for us, I think, was that if you don't explain something well enough then the question won't go away," she wrote.
The administration faced bipartisan criticism for lack of transparency regarding the health of the oldest-serving U. S.
president, who was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2025.
"There was never a satisfying enough explanation offered for Joe's debate performance, and a lot of people never got over it," Jill Biden wrote.
Current Health and Financial Terms
Biden said he has been spending time with family and undergoing cancer treatment. "I've been spending a lot of time with my family.
I'm dealing with a cancer diagnosis, been getting treatment, and it's going really well," he said.
He thanked the public for their support, saying, "It's meant the world to me and to Jill."
Little, Brown and Company has declined to disclose the financial specifics of the book deal, despite historical precedents of seven-figure presidential advances.
