The New York Yankees placed All-Star outfielder Cody Bellinger on the 10-day injured list on July 26, 2026, due to a left hamstring strain.
The team called up outfielder Spencer Jones from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to fill the roster spot.
Bellinger sustained the injury while rounding first base on an eighth-inning double during New York's 3-1 victory against the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday night.
Max Schuemann replaced him in left field for the bottom half of the inning and was slated to start in left field on Sunday.
The roster move leaves the Yankees without another key offensive contributor.
New York has been playing without Aaron Judge since May 31 due to a fractured rib, while designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton remains sidelined with a right calf strain sustained on April 24.
The club entered Sunday 2.5 games behind the Tampa Bay Rays in the American League East.
Bellinger has posted a . 259 batting average with 11 home runs and 53 RBIs across 102 games this season.
He led the majors with 19 defensive runs saved entering Saturday and earned MVP honors at the All-Star Game on July 14 in Philadelphia.
After signing a five-year, $162.5 million contract last winter, he batted . 280 through mid-June before experiencing a slump.
Bellinger noted his physical condition after waking up following the game. "Little tight," he said.
"I didn't wake up worse."
He is scheduled for further testing in New York on Monday and will refrain from wearing cleats for at least four days while engaging in light jogging.
Yankees manager Aaron Boone offered a hopeful assessment regarding the recovery timeframe. "It's not something that seems terrible," Boone said.
"He's able to move around today. Just hope for something on the shorter side, but tough to know for sure."
Boone emphasized the team's need to adapt to the current roster situation. "Just got to mix and match and piece it together," he said.
"We have capable guys. We're going out there expecting to win."
