Major British financial institutions including Lloyds, Barclays, and Halifax experienced significant service disruptions on July 27, leaving hundreds of customers unable to complete online transfers or process payments through mobile applications.

According to tracking data from Downdetector, network issues surfaced around 11:30 a. m.

, generating over 900 error reports.

By late afternoon, 420 Barclays users, 293 Lloyds customers, and 193 Halifax account holders had formally logged service failures.

Faster Payments Network Failure

The disruptions primarily stemmed from a critical system failure within the Faster Payments network, causing widespread delays and transaction errors.

Many customers received false alerts indicating their transfers had failed, prompting them to attempt duplicate transactions.

A statement posted to X in response to a customer query by Lloyds said: "Sorry for the inconvenience.

We're investigating an issue affecting Faster Payments, which may cause delays."

The institution urged affected account holders to refrain from reinitiating transactions to prevent unintended multiple charges.

Replying to one customer, Lloyds Bank said: "Your payment has been successfully processed; however, there may be a slight delay before it appears in your transactions or leaves your account."

The representative added further instructions regarding transaction safety. "Please do not resend the payment, as this could result in the transaction being processed twice.

Thank you for your patience," Lloyds Bank said.

Frustrated customers reported being unable to access funds, make urgent payments, or receive incoming deposits.

One affected user said: "I've just transferred money into my Halifax and It's not showing up? This is disgraceful."

Another customer shared similar access issues: "App always down and can't access my own money."

The technical glitch created widespread confusion over payment statuses across social platforms. "Unable to make payment," one customer said.

Warning others about duplicate charges, another user said: "BEWARE: Messages say payments have failed but are actually going through!"

Disruption also spread to automated teller machines and phone support lines. One user said: "Lloyds bank having issues sending and receiving payments yet again."

Highlighting severe service delays, another customer said: "Is anyone else having any issues with Lloyds?

I Can't get money from the ATM nor make any bank transfers to pay etc."

The user continued: "My partner is also having the same issues with her Lloyds account. Their helpline has a 40 minute delay - so something is definitely not right."

Barclays confirmed that approximately 76 percent of its logged user reports involved incoming and outgoing fund transfers.

In an update on its service status page, the bank said: "We're sorry, we're aware some customers may be having issues receiving external payments at the moment.

We're working to fix this."

Barclays account holders reported significant delays in receiving expected funds. One Barclays user said: "Payments sent to Barclays accounts aren't arriving.

Might wanna update that status page since it's been, you know, 3 hours now."

Expressing concern over upcoming bill obligations, another user said: "Why am I not receiving payments ?

I'm expecting a payment in which has been sent and it looks like it won't be in my account in time to cover payments out ?

What's going on ? I'm a premier customer and this is not the first time!

This is not on."

Halifax told one customer that their payment had been "successfully processed" but "there may be a slight delay before it appears in your transactions or leaves your account".

The representative issued a warning to prevent duplicate transfers.

The user was warned: "Please do not resend the payment, as this could result in the transaction being processed twice".

As of late afternoon, the precise root cause of the system outage remained unconfirmed by the financial institutions, and efforts to fully restore online banking services remain ongoing.
