Naga Munchetty is leaving BBC Breakfast after 17 years, with reports linking her departure to an internal workplace misconduct inquiry.
The 51-year-old presenter will move to BBC Radio 5 Live Breakfast in January 2027.
An internal review was launched in August 2025 after complaints about Munchetty's behavior over three years.
Allegations include an inappropriate off-air sexual remark in 2022 and an unsubstantiated theft accusation against a younger colleague.
During the investigation, the BBC assigned production monitors in the studio to observe Munchetty while she remained on air.
The outcome of the probe has not been made public.
Munchetty also faced audience criticism in April 2026 for deadpan remarks to former weather presenter Carol Kirkwood during her final broadcast.
Viewers perceived the comments as hostile, though insiders said the two were close friends.
Under the new schedule, Munchetty will anchor the flagship radio morning show five days a week, broadcasting three days from Salford and two days from London.
Current hosts Rachel Burden and Rick Edwards will step down in December.
"I'm thrilled to be joining 5 Live Breakfast in January," Munchetty said. She highlighted her passion for live broadcasting and her long tenure with the morning television team.
"Live news, great conversations and connecting with audiences are what I love most about broadcasting, and 5 Live does all of that brilliantly.
It has been a privilege to be part of the BBC Breakfast TV team for the past 17 years," she added.
Munchetty framed the transition as a natural progression after hosting the station's mid-morning slot since 2021.
"Presenting a flagship programme on 5 Live is an opportunity that was simply too good to pass up," she said.
She noted her goal to expand her relationship with morning radio listeners.
"Over the last five years, I've been privileged to build a relationship with 5 Live listeners on the mid-morning programme," she said.
Munchetty confirmed she will continue her regular hosting duties until the schedule changes take effect.
"Between now and January, I'll continue presenting the two programmes I love," she said.
Co-presenter Jon Kay shared the news with viewers on air.
"Our friend and colleague Naga Munchetty has announced that she will be leaving BBC Breakfast to co-present the BBC 5 Live Breakfast Show from January next year," Kay said.
Co-anchor Sally Nugent confirmed that the current radio presenters had been informed.
"Naga has just shared the news with the current presenters Rachel Burden and Rick Edwards," Nugent said.
Rachel Burden will move to the weekday mid-morning slot from Monday to Wednesday after 15 years on 5 Live Breakfast.
Rick Edwards will transition to present Fighting Talk on Saturday mornings. The BBC has begun recruiting Munchetty's successor on the television sofa.
