A person died after being struck by a train at Mirfield railway station on July 28, triggering widespread cancellations and delays of up to 60 minutes across major Yorkshire rail corridors.
Emergency crews, including firefighters, paramedics, and British Transport Police officers, were dispatched to the station on Station Road shortly before 7:30 a.
m. following reports of a casualty on the tracks.
Authorities pronounced the individual dead at the scene.
Service Disruption and Recovery
The incident forced the closure of lines connecting Huddersfield, Brighouse, Leeds, and Wakefield Kirkgate for several hours.
Rail operators implemented temporary route revisions, short-turnings, and replacement bus services between Halifax, Leeds, Manchester, and York while emergency personnel responded.
Police confirmed that the fatality is not being treated as suspicious and stated that a file is being prepared for the coroner.
"Officers were called to Mirfield railway station at 7.27am today (28 July) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.
Paramedics also attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

Earlier in the morning, TransPennine Express warned travelers about initial disruption due to engineering works not being finished on time between York and Scarborough.
"Due to engineering works not being finished on time between York and Scarborough all lines are blocked.
Train services running to and from these stations may be cancelled, delayed or terminated at and started back from York," said a spokesperson for TransPennine Express.
The operator later updated passengers once those earlier engineering issues were resolved prior to the incident at Mirfield.
National Rail alerted passengers to additional travel impacts, including a separate points failure affecting lines between Knottingley and Castleford.
"There is a points failure between Knottingley and Castleford meaning some lines are blocked.
As a result, services running between Knottingley and Leeds may be cancelled or delayed by up to 15 minutes," said a spokesperson for National Rail.
National Rail updated travelers later in the morning after emergency teams cleared the tracks at Mirfield, though warning that residual delays would persist into the afternoon.
"All lines have now reopened following the emergency services dealing with an incident between Huddersfield / Brighouse and Leeds / Wakefield Kirkgate.
As service recovers, trains may still be cancelled, delayed by up to 60 minutes or revised.
Major disruption is expected until 11:30," said a spokesperson for National Rail.
The agency added that rail lines between Dewsbury and Halifax have resumed operations while recovery efforts continue.
Travelers were advised by rail authorities to expect busier conditions on replacement vehicles during the recovery period.
