Purdue men's basketball improved to 2-0 on its Canadian summer exhibition tour after an 82-66 victory over Trinity Western University at Langley Events Centre in British Columbia on July 26, 2026.

The win followed a 102-63 defeat of the Vancouver Selects the previous evening as head coach Matt Painter continues to assess team depth.

Painter used heavy rotation, giving ten Boilermakers at least 17 minutes of playing time. Center Daniel Jacobsen led scoring with 14 points and added three blocks.

Redshirt freshman guard Antione West Jr. contributed 13 points, three steals, and four rebounds in 21 minutes.

The Boilermakers built their second-half lead behind defense, using consecutive steals near the five-minute mark of the third quarter to spark a 10-0 run.

Transfer forward Caden Pierce grabbed a team-high seven rebounds to support the frontcourt.

Painter praised the defensive intensity from his young perimeter players after the game.

"His ability to hawk the basketball is really going to help us," Painter said.

"He does a good job putting pressure on the ball, getting those steals, having active hands, and that's what we need from him."

Pierce, who transferred from Princeton and sat out last season, noted his role in guiding younger teammates during the tour.

"I'm a guy who's been in college basketball for three years. I know what's right.

I know what's wrong," Pierce said after Purdue's first exhibition match.

He added that adapting to the new team has been exciting.

"There's always a sense of joy and almost like innocence with an incoming class of freshmen, and it's fun," he said.

"There's a new group, new faces, and I'm a freshman almost too with this team, so it's fun to be a part of it."

Frontcourt contributor Raleigh Burgess provided critical extra possessions during his minutes at power forward and center, converting 3-of-4 field goal attempts while maintaining offensive flow.

"I could be a vocal leader. Everyone hears my voice, that's something I try to do," Burgess said.

"Part of my role is just being a hustle guy, doing what's needed, filling in the gaps. Not any one specific thing."

As the Boilermakers work through their four-game international schedule, the coaching staff continues to test diverse lineups to solidify core roles ahead of the regular season.

"We don't have a lot of separation," Painter said.

"We have a very very deep team, but who's going to step up and be our main guys?"

Purdue continues its exhibition slate in British Columbia with a matchup against the University of Calgary at Simon Fraser University on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, followed by a final game against the University of Fraser Valley on Wednesday, July 29, 2026.
