British character actor Tom Chadbon has died at the age of 80.
His passing occurred last weekend, and the news was announced on July 27 by publishing company Fantom Events, which represented him.
The confirmation came through his family, but no cause of death was disclosed.
Fantom Events released an official statement expressing their sorrow. "We are sorry to hear the news that Tom Chadbon passed away last weekend," the statement read.
"Tom was a familiar face to many from his numerous television and film credits.
He was always a warm and friendly man to work with and we send our condolences to his family at this sad time."
Chadbon built a diverse screen resume with more than 120 credits.
He achieved early recognition for his 1979 role as Inspector Duggan in the Doctor Who story "City of Death," opposite Tom Baker.
He later returned to the sci-fi franchise in 1986 as Merdeen in "The Trial of a Time Lord."
Colleagues and Fans Pay Tribute
Tom Baker recalled working with Chadbon in a 2009 interview. "Oh, and Tom Chadbon was terribly funny," Baker said.
"Terribly funny!
I used to love the other actors – I was always trying to help them make things funnier, or more dramatic."
Chadbon's television career included major UK series such as The Bill, Holby City, Taggart, Crown Prosecutor, Silent Witness, Heartbeat, and Midsomer Murders.
He also earned cult recognition for playing Martin in the sitcom Peep Show and portrayed High Septon Maynard in the 2017 season finale of Game of Thrones.
His film credits included roles in Tess, Juggernaut, The Alf Garnett Saga, and the 2006 James Bond blockbuster Casino Royale, where he played a stockbroker during the high-stakes poker scene.
Former colleagues paid tribute online.
Writer Cavan Scott said, "So sorry to hear the passing of the great Tom Chadbon who I shared many a happy studio session with while producing Blake's 7, not to mention the storyfilled meals after recordings.
An absolute gent. God speed, Tom."
Actress Lisa Bowerman also expressed her condolences. "Oh no...
I hadn't heard," Bowerman said. "How incredibly sad.
He was wonderful."
Online fan communities celebrated his legacy.
Peep Show fan page Dobby Club wrote on X: "RIP to the legend Tom Chadbon who starred in Peep Show as Martin aka Indiana Ashdown."
Chadbon's final television performance was in Game of Thrones in 2017.
