Madonna's 20-year-old daughter, Mercy James, has taken a behind-the-scenes role on Andy Cohen's late-night talk show Watch What Happens Live.
Mercy, adopted from Malawi by the singer in 2009, works on the production team of the Bravo show in New York.
Colleagues have noted her strong work ethic and humble demeanor on set.
Rosie O'Donnell Reveals the Job
Comedian Rosie O'Donnell first publicly disclosed the job after a recent visit to the studio.
O'Donnell said she unexpectedly ran into Mercy during production.
"We text each other often, and I just saw her daughter on Watch What Happens Live," O'Donnell said.
She noted that host Andy Cohen initially introduced Mercy without revealing her famous parentage.
"Her daughter, Mercy, works there," O'Donnell said.
O'Donnell recounted her surprise upon discovering Mercy on set.
"And it's funny, Andy goes 'look!' And I thought he was introducing me to just a staff member," she said.
"And I was like, 'Hi, what's your name?' And she goes, 'Rosie, it's Mercy!'
And I was like, 'Oh my God, what are you doing here?'"
O'Donnell added that Mercy had been quietly employed at the program for an extended period.
"But she's worked there for like a year or so. So I was very happy for her and proud of her," O'Donnell said.
Reflecting on Madonna's parenting, O'Donnell praised how she raised her children.
"I have to say Madonna has done one hell of a job raising those children.
She ran a very tight ship, and I had a very not tight ship," O'Donnell said.
She commended the talents of all six children in the family.
"But she's an amazing mother, and those kids are concert pianists and artists and singers. She is pretty phenomenal," O'Donnell said.
A production insider praised Mercy's demeanor on set.
"She is lovely, just the sweetest most adorable girl," an insider said.
Madonna's History with Cohen's Show
Host Andy Cohen previously discussed his persistent efforts to book Madonna on his show.
"Madonna still has not done the show.
I'm actually kind of over it because in my Notes app, I was keeping a long list of interview questions for her in case she ever did the show, and she's kind of answered a lot of it," Cohen said.
Cohen recalled reaching out to Madonna regarding attendance at one of her live performances, which drew a critical response.
"She said to me 'Stop having people trash me on your show,'" Cohen said.
He analyzed why the pop star continued to decline his invitations.
"I think she sees me sitting there with the guest and I'm guilty by association," Cohen said.
During a Brooklyn stop on her Celebration Tour, Madonna addressed Cohen directly from the stage.
"If you say one more bad thing about me on your show, you're gonna get in so much trouble," Madonna said.
She playfully teased him before continuing her concert.
"You little troublemaking queen!" Madonna said.
Madonna has previously opened up about balancing her career with raising her family.
"Even today, I struggle to understand how to be a mother as well as do my job," she said.
She described the immense effort required to raise children regardless of personal success.
"Because no matter where you are, whoever you are, having children and raising kids is a work of art.
And nobody gives you a manual—you have to learn from your mistakes," Madonna said.
Reflecting on her early years, she revealed her initial reluctance toward motherhood.
"I rejected the idea of being a mother well into my 30s because I associated motherhood with sacrifice, suffering and ultimately death and I wanted none of that," Madonna said.
She expressed deep gratitude for her maternal role and her children's impact on her life.
"To say that I am [proud of] my children sounds arrogant or implies ownership.
Better to say that they are all shining stars and I'm happy that their souls chose me to be their mother," Madonna said.
Mercy James is part of Madonna's family alongside siblings Lourdes, Rocco, David, and twins Stella and Estere.
