The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is ramping up enforcement across the Central Coast as Monterey Car Week draws crowds and exotic cars.
On Wednesday, August 12, the CHP's Coastal Division conducted a division-wide Special Enforcement Unit operation targeting unsafe speed and dangerous driving.
CHP Air Operations supported the effort, monitoring roads from above.
High-Profile Stops
Officers in Santa Cruz showcased two notable stops: a Lamborghini Huracan and a Ferrari 360 Modena.
The Hollister-Gilroy division also pulled over a Mercedes-AMG GT and a Shelby Mustang.
Motorcycle police are part of the enforcement, ensuring visibility across the region.
Coastal Division Commander Chief Mike Alvarez emphasized safety: "When drivers choose to speed, they aren’t just risking their own lives, they are putting our local neighborhoods at risk."
The CHP expects traffic challenges to continue as Car Week proceeds, covering counties like Monterey, Santa Cruz, San Benito, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, and Ventura.
