Lando Norris has urged the FIA to issue race bans following a Turn 1 restart collision that ended his race early.
The McLaren driver was taken out when Franco Colapinto attempted a move at Turn 1, also collecting Pierre Gasly.
The incident happened during a safety car restart. Norris retired on the spot with severe damage to his car, destroying several components.
Before the crash, Norris had struggled with persistent straight-line speed deficiencies on his McLaren.
Despite overnight setup adjustments, the car could not hold positions down the straights from the start.
"I just was slow," Norris said. "Just struggling a lot in the straights.
You saw how quickly everyone came past me."
He added that the race was impossible from his side due to the straight-line speed and hoped the team would fix it for next time.
Norris Criticizes Driving Standards and Calls for Bans
Addressing the race-ending crash, Norris voiced frustration with driver conduct. "I just got taken out," he said.
He then criticized the standards of certain competitors. "Just some drivers that shouldn't be in Formula 1, to be honest," Norris said.
Expanding on his comments, Norris urged the FIA to take stronger disciplinary action.
"I think the FIA should be more strict and start handing out bans for this kind of stuff," he said.
"It's just careless from people. It costs a lot of money, all my parts are in the bin now.
People should just get banned, because that's not driving that deserves to be in Formula One," Norris added.
Despite the setback, Norris noted that McLaren had won two of the previous four races and remains optimistic for future fixtures.
"We're going to be in for another tough few weekends, I imagine, but maybe Malaysia is a better one for us," he said.
McLaren continues working on resolving its straight-line speed deficits ahead of upcoming Grand Prix events.
