The Citadel football team travels to Orangeburg, South Carolina, to meet No. 15/12 South Carolina State on Saturday, Oct.

3, 2026, at 2 p. m.

at Oliver C. Dawson Stadium.

The Bulldogs enter the non-conference rivalry matchup with a 1-3 overall record and are looking to end a two-game losing streak against South Carolina State.

That run includes a 23-20 loss in 2024 and a 31-10 defeat in their last trip to Dawson Stadium in 2023.

Ground Game Carries the Bulldogs

Under third-year offensive coordinator Lamar Owens, The Citadel's rushing attack ranks sixth nationally in the Football Championship Subdivision and first in the Southern Conference.

The Bulldogs average 225.5 rushing yards per game.

Running back Gavin Garcia leads the effort with 87.3 yards per game, which places him 19th nationally, plus four touchdowns on 74 carries.

Quarterback Quentin Hayes has added 192 rushing yards on 59 carries, while running back Sebastien Boyle has contributed 94 yards and three touchdowns on 14 carries.

The Citadel also ranks first in the FCS with just 27.0 penalty yards per game and second nationally with 3.0 penalties per game.

The offense holds possession for an average of 33:28 minutes per game, the 14th-best mark in the country.

Defensively, Dartmouth transfer Zyion Brown leads the Bulldogs with 36 total tackles through four games.

His 21 solo tackles rank 13th nationally and first in the Southern Conference, alongside 3.5 tackles for loss.
