Evil Dead Burn has taken the top spot on HBO Max's worldwide movie charts, marking a major streaming milestone for the horror franchise during the Halloween season.

The film arrived on the platform on October 2, 2026, and climbed to No. 1 in the global rankings after its debut.

Directed by Sébastien Vaniček and produced by Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert, the movie has outperformed several established titles on the service.

According to FlixPatrol, it sits ahead of Contagion, Superbad, Hunter Hunter, V for Vendetta, Play Dirty, and Zodiac.

The film also topped HBO Max's US movie chart, according to a Yahoo report published on October 14, while Collider reported its worldwide success on October 18.

Box office and critical reception

The streaming performance follows a theatrical release that generated $72.4 million worldwide against a reported production budget of $20 million.

Figures cited by MovieWeb and Yahoo show the film opened with $13.7 million domestically in July, finishing fourth at the weekend box office.

Although its theatrical run fell short of Evil Dead Rise, the latest sequel has found a substantial audience online.

Critical reception has been generally positive, despite divided opinions about the film's tone and visual effects.

Rotten Tomatoes lists a 70% critics' approval rating based on 211 reviews, while its audience score stands at 74% from more than 2,500 verified ratings, according to Yahoo.

Vaniček, the French filmmaker behind the spider horror film Infested, takes the franchise in a different direction by combining supernatural violence with family conflict.

The story follows Alice, played by Souheila Yacoub, as she struggles with the death of her husband and seeks refuge at a secluded family residence.

The gathering becomes a nightmare when demonic forces begin possessing members of the family, transforming them into Deadites.

Hunter Doohan plays Joseph Price, while Luciane Buchanan portrays Thya and Tandi Wright appears as Susan Price.

The cast also includes Erroll Shand, Maude Davey, George Pullar, and Greta van den Brink.

Reviews have praised the film's frightening sequences and practical effects, although some critics have questioned its use of computer-generated imagery in the third act and its particularly harsh tone.

The installment also departs from the familiar isolated-cabin setup by placing its central horror within a grieving family confronting strained relationships.

The film's streaming success continues a pattern associated with the Evil Dead franchise, which has maintained a following through home viewing since Sam Raimi's original 1981 film.

Warner Bros.

also supported the latest release with an HBO linear triple feature that included the 2013 Evil Dead film and Evil Dead Rise.

The franchise already has another installment in development.

Evil Dead Wrath, directed by Francis Galluppi, is scheduled for release on April 7, 2028, according to MovieWeb and Collider.

Collider also reported that the new film has completed filming and will serve as a prequel to the original 1981 movie, with its story set in the early 1970s.

Evil Dead Burn is available to stream on HBO Max worldwide, while Collider reports that the film is also available on Netflix in certain international markets.
