Rockies pitcher Zach Agnos made his first career major league start in a bullpen game designed to give extra rest to Tomoyuki Sugano.
Agnos tossed a career-high five innings, allowing one hit with four strikeouts and one walk.
Carroll also drove in the game's first run with a fielder's choice in the sixth inning.
Arizona reliever Paul Sewald earned the win, improving to 1-4 after a perfect ninth inning.
Colorado's Juan Mejia dropped to 0-4 after issuing two walks and allowing the game-winning hit.
