The New York Knicks have reached their second consecutive Eastern Conference Finals, validating the front office's decision to sign forward Mikal Bridges to a four-year, $150 million contract extension prior to the season.

The extension initially faced significant outside skepticism due to the substantial draft capital traded to acquire Bridges.

However, his defensive versatility and 38 percent postseason three-point shooting have anchored New York during its deepest playoff run since 1999.

Bridges is projected to rank as the 53rd highest-paid NBA player next season.

Rival franchises with salary cap space, including the Los Angeles Lakers, Chicago Bulls, Los Angeles Clippers, and Atlanta Hawks, would have driven his market value much higher in free agency.

A maximum contract from an outside suitor could have reached $212.9 million over four years.

New York avoided a bidding war by securing the extension early, mitigating the risk of losing him during the 2027 offseason.

"It's always great when your coach has got trust in you," said Bridges, according to Yahoo Sports.

The forward emphasized that internal chemistry remained vital to navigating individual performance fluctuations throughout the competitive season.

"Yeah, that's great. And teammates staying with it, keeping me confident, as well.

I think we all know the end goal is just trying to win games and do whatever it takes to win.

Even in my mistakes, just try to do whatever it takes and know that I just gotta bounce back and learn from them," Bridges added.

Bridges has maintained an extensive defensive workload throughout the current postseason, primarily guarding elite perimeter threats such as Nickeil Alexander-Walker, Tyrese Maxey, and James Harden.
