The Montreal Canadiens defeated the heavily favored Carolina Hurricanes 6-2 at the Lenovo Center on May 22, 2026, to open the Eastern Conference Final.

The Canadiens capitalized on a dominant four-goal first period to secure the victory and take a 1-0 lead in the best-of-seven series.

Cole Caufield responded for Montreal 27 seconds later, sparking an offensive surge that dismantled the Hurricanes defense.

Phillip Danault, Alexandre Texier, and Ivan Demidov each scored in the opening frame as the Canadiens built an early 4-1 lead.

Montreal converted their fourth goal just eight seconds after recovering the puck behind their own net.

The Hurricanes responded in the second period when Eric Robinson scored off the crossbar.
