Manchester United has appointed Michael Carrick as the club's permanent head coach on a two-year contract, the club announced on May 22, 2026.
The 44-year-old took temporary charge in January following the dismissal of Ruben Amorim and guided the team to a third-place finish in the Premier League, securing Champions League football.

Under Carrick, Manchester United earned 36 points from 16 matches, winning 11 times.
His performance earned him a spot on the six-man shortlist for the Premier League's manager of the season award.
Carrick's Vision for the Club
"From the moment that I arrived here 20 years ago, I felt the magic of Manchester United.
Carrying the responsibility of leading our special football club fills me with immense pride," Carrick said.
He praised the squad's resilience during his interim tenure.

The appointment ends a turbulent period under former manager Amorim, whose 14-month tenure ended due to poor results and tactical disagreements.

Carrick previously served a three-game interim stint in 2021 after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's departure and spent 12 years as a player for the club.
