Jordan Spieth and Scottie Scheffler will both skip the Charles Schwab Challenge at Colonial Country Club next week, according to the tournament field announced Friday.

The PGA Tour Communications confirmed Spieth will miss the Fort Worth event for the first time in his professional career, despite his strong performance at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson.

A demanding spring stretch and the upcoming U. S.

Open at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club likely prompted the schedule adjustment, as reported by sports. yahoo.

com. The tournament offers a $9.9 million purse and 500 FedEx Cup points.

“It's just a rock and a hard place for myself and Scottie and guys who are local, who grew up here,” Spieth said.

“There is just such a premium on the elevated events.”

The 13-time Tour winner previously won at Colonial in 2016, with three runner-up finishes and four top-5 finishes in 13 career starts, according to golfweek.

Defending champion Ben Griffin will lead the field, joined by high-ranking players including World No. 9 J. J.

The event marks the 80th anniversary of Colonial hosting, cementing its status as the longest-running non-major host venue on the PGA Tour.
