Venue Change Due to World Cup

The 61,500-seat venue on the University of Virginia campus replaces Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts, which was selected for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

This marks the first time since 2002 that a college campus hosts the Division I national championship weekend, and the first time Charlottesville has hosted since 1982.

Top-seeded Princeton will face Duke at noon, followed by No. 2 Notre Dame against No. 6 Syracuse at 2:30 p.

m.

The national championship game is scheduled for Memorial Day, Monday, May 25.

Additionally, the Division III national championship game between Tufts and RIT will be held at the same venue on Sunday, May 24.

Matt Colagiovanni, Committee Chair and Deputy Athletics Director at Rutgers, expressed excitement about the move to Charlottesville.

Colagiovanni thanked local organizers for facilitating the venue change to ensure a positive environment for the tournament.

"We are thrilled to work with the University of Virginia staff and local community to provide an outstanding championship experience for the student-athletes as the event returns to a college campus setting," he added.

Local businesses near the stadium, including Selvedge Brewing, are preparing for the influx of lacrosse fans.

"This weekend, we’re excited to have the NCAA Lacrosse Championships in town.

We’d love for people to come spend some time here after the game, before the game, whatever you want to do," said Dan FitzHenry, Selvedge Brewing COO.
