Jonas Vingegaard led the Giro d'Italia peloton into the 151-kilometer queen stage from Feltre to Alleghe on Friday, May 29, 2026.

The route features six grueling mountain passes through the Dolomites.

Stage Profile and Key Climbs

The mountainous route includes the Passo del Duran, Coi, Passo Staulanza, Passo Falzarego, and the final Piani di Pezzè climb.

The highest point of the entire race is the iconic Passo Giau, which stands at 2,233 meters above sea level.

Before the stage commenced, Vingegaard held a commanding four-minute advantage over his closest general classification rival Felix Gall.

Thymen Arensman trailed in third place.

Early Race Tactics

Early race developments saw immediate tactical moves as the squads of Arensman and Jai Hindley sent riders into an early breakaway attempt.

The goal was to establish support options for later in the day.

The early breakaway attempt by Netcompany-Ineos and Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe was quickly neutralized by Decathlon-CMA CGM. The team acted to protect Gall's second-place position.

Several notable riders abandoned the race early in the day. Multi-stage winner Jhonatan Narváez of UAE-Emirates retired after slipping back to his team car.

EF Education-EasyPost riders Michael Valgren and James Shaw did not start the stage. The team elected to save their energy for upcoming competitions.

A secondary five-man breakaway group established a 40-second gap ahead of the peloton as the race reached the opening first-category ascent of the Passo Duran.
