Former Vancouver Canucks defenseman Alex Edler is preparing to return to the organization as a staff member for the upcoming summer prospect development camp.
Newly appointed general manager Ryan Johnson confirmed that initial discussions have taken place with the retired blue-liner regarding a potential role.
Edler's Legacy and Potential Role
Edler spent 15 of his 17 NHL seasons in Vancouver, holding franchise records for defensemen with 925 games played and 99 goals.
He retired in 2023 after a final season with the Los Angeles Kings.
According to Swedish outlet HockeyNews. se, Edler will initially assist at the development camp, traditionally held at UBC in early July.
Johnson provided an update on the ongoing talks, stating, "Alex is a friend and someone I have talked to for a few years about it."
However, he added, "We have not committed to anything, though."
Swedish journalist Mattias Oak reported that the plan is for Edler to help out at this summer's development camp, giving him a part in the organization.
If finalized, Edler would become the fifth member of the 2011 Canucks Stanley Cup Final team to join the current organizational staff.
