Marta Kostyuk knocked out four-time French Open champion Iga Swiatek in straight sets on Sunday, sending the third seed out of Roland Garros at the earliest stage since 2019.

Kostyuk won 7-5, 6-1 to end Swiatek's hopes of a fifth title in Paris. The result ensures a first-time women's singles champion will be crowned this year.

The victory extended Kostyuk's winning streak on clay to 16 matches in 2026. Swiatek had previously won all three of their career meetings.

Swiatek struggled with her serve and shot selection throughout the match.

She served for the opening set but twice gave up a break advantage before her baseline game collapsed in the second set.

Top Seeds Fall

With Swiatek out, 19-year-old eighth seed Mirra Andreeva is the highest remaining seed in the top half of the draw.

Second seed Elena Rybakina was eliminated on Wednesday by Ukrainian player Yuliia Starodubtseva.

The upsets clear a path for top seed Aryna Sabalenka, who is chasing her first French Open title.
