Manchester United midfielder Tyler Fletcher has officially replaced the injured Billy Gilmour in Scotland's World Cup squad, following the team's 4-1 friendly victory over Curacao at Hampden Park on Saturday, May 30, 2026.

The 19-year-old made his international debut as a half-time substitute in that match, as reported by BBC Scotland.

Gilmour, who plays for Napoli, sustained a knee injury during the first half and was subsequently withdrawn from the 26-man tournament selection by head coach Steve Clarke.

Fletcher has logged more minutes for his country than his club this season, having made just two substitute appearances for Manchester United.

His twin brother, Jack, has chosen to represent England internationally.

The teenager was initially added to the training squad last week alongside James Wilson, Liam McFarlane, and Luke Graham.

Clarke had previously mentioned Connor Barron, Andy Irving, and Lennon Miller as potential standby options before finalizing Fletcher's inclusion.

The Scotland head coach expressed his disappointment regarding Gilmour's sudden injury ahead of the tournament, according to statements released by the national team.

"It boosts our numbers for training given the staggered arrivals of those who are still playing domestically – and it allows us to take a closer look at some boys who are on our radar," said Clarke, referring to his initial training squad additions.

Clarke also addressed the severe impact the injury has on Gilmour's tournament aspirations after his contributions during the qualification stages.
