Weddle, whose son Gaige is a four-star running back recruit in the class of 2028 being pursued by Michigan, visited the program recently and shared his critical assessment.

Weddle's Assessment
“Mark my words, I was out there for spring ball,” Weddle said.
“Don't be surprised if the backup [is] playing early because that Underwood kid, you know, I don't think he could throw or play quarterback, so we'll see.”

The remarks place Weddle in a minority opinion, as head coach Kyle Whittingham, offensive coordinator Jason Beck, and the rest of the Michigan staff have firmly backed Underwood as the definitive starter for the upcoming season.
Underwood, entering his second year as the starting quarterback, has strong support from the coaching staff despite Weddle's skepticism.
