Mexico national team head coach Javier Aguirre is shifting toward a younger generation of talent to maximize home-field advantage at the upcoming World Cup.

This strategic overhaul aims for redemption after the team's early group-stage exit at Qatar 2022.

Guiding Mexico into a World Cup for the third time, the manager known as "El Vasco" completely reshaped a squad that previously failed to advance past the first round for the first time since 1978.

Aguirre selected 13 players who did not participate in the tournament four years ago.

Among these new inclusions is 17-year-old midfielder Gilberto Mora, who stands out as a highly anticipated prospect.

Mora could become the youngest Mexican man to ever feature in a World Cup match.

The current record belongs to Manuel “Chaquetas” Rosas, who debuted at 18 years and 88 days old during the inaugural tournament in 1930.

On the international stage, Brazil legend Pele remains among the seven individuals who competed in a World Cup at just 17 years old.

The absolute youngest player in tournament history is Northern Ireland’s Norman Whiteside, who played in Spain in 1982.

Mexico is scheduled to play its opening match against South Africa on June 11.

Depending on his exact substitution or starting time, Mora would rank as the sixth or seventh youngest player on the all-time international tournament list.

While youth dominates the new selections, some veterans are returning from the Qatar 2022 campaign.
