Indiana Fever head coach Stephanie White has addressed the heated sideline exchange with star guard Caitlin Clark that went viral during Saturday's loss to the Portland Fire.
Speaking Monday before practice, White defended the confrontation, calling it a normal part of coaching. "I think what happened in that moment is I was challenging a player.

It's coaching, is what it is," White said.
The Fever dropped to 4-4 after consecutive losses on their West Coast road trip, including a 16-point defeat to Portland.
Video footage of the argument spread rapidly online, drawing comments from basketball figures like Sue Bird and Cheryl Miller.
White emphasized that her relationship with Clark remains strong. "My relationship with Caitlin is great.
I love Caitlin. I ride with her," she said.
The coach explained that both she and Clark are competitive and stubborn, which led to the intense moment.
Constructive Tension
White described the exchange as constructive.
"She wants to be coached, and I want her to help me be a better coach," White said.

"We're both competitive. We're both stubborn.
We're more alike than different, and hopefully we continue to bring the best out of each other."
The coach noted that similar confrontations happen in all sports but rarely attract attention. "This is not a new thing.
It's just new because everything that (Clark) does gets clicks. That's how everybody makes money," White said.
She added that 10 years ago, such moments would not have been captured on social media. "It happens in every sport.
It happens in all walks of life, so this is not anything that's new, and it's not a story."
The Fever started the season 4-2 after an opening-night loss but have now lost two straight.

They will look to bounce back Thursday when they host Angel Reese and the conference-leading Atlanta Dream.
