Manchester City midfielder Rodri has announced that he will postpone all decisions regarding his professional future until after the FIFA World Cup.

The 29-year-old Spanish international addressed the ongoing speculation during a press conference ahead of Spain's opening matches at the tournament.

"I'm here to speak about the World Cup. Everything related to my future will have to wait until after the World Cup," Rodri said.

The announcement follows public statements from Real Madrid presidential candidate Enrique Riquelme, who claimed Rodri would join the La Liga club if Riquelme wins the upcoming election on June 7.

Rodri is entering the final year of his contract with the Premier League champions.

Director of football Hugo Viana is leading renewal talks, with reports from Fabrizio Romano indicating the player is seeking an improved financial package.

Prior to this update, Rodri had acknowledged the contract discussions without revealing specifics, hinting that his situation at the Etihad Stadium could differ if the tournament were not taking place.

Real Madrid has a long-standing interest in the defensive midfielder, an ambition that remains independent of whether Riquelme or current president Florentino Perez wins the June 7 election.

The Spanish club is expected to maintain its pursuit of the player, but a final resolution on the contract stalemate is unlikely before the tournament concludes in mid-July.
