Florida Gulf Coast University has appointed Darrin Wallace as an assistant coach for its men's basketball program, bringing a familiar face back to the program.
Wallace, who played for FGCU's inaugural team in 2002-03 and later served as video coordinator, joins head coach Pat Chambers' staff.

Wallace previously coached at Florida SouthWestern State College, where he compiled a 41-19 record and won a Citrus Conference title as head coach.
He also helped 10 players move to Division I or Division II programs.

Wallace expressed gratitude for the opportunity to return without relocating.
"It's not very often where you leave one place, especially at the Division I level, where you leave a job for a Division I job and you don't have to move," he said.
Chambers praised Wallace's track record. "Darrin has proven himself as an outstanding head coach, recruiter, and mentor throughout his career," Chambers said.

"His ability to develop players, build meaningful relationships, and connect within the community makes him a tremendous addition."
Wallace said building relationships with the current roster is his top priority.
He also looks forward to learning from Chambers, whom he called "one of the better coaches in the country."
FGCU also announced two transfer portal additions: forward Charles "CJ" Outlaw from UMass and guard Elijah Brooks from Houston Christian.

Outlaw shot 73 percent from the field for NJCAA champion Trinity Valley Community College, while Brooks averaged 12.3 points and 4.5 rebounds before an injury.
