Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli won a chaotic Monaco Grand Prix following a red flag, holding his lead through multiple restarts to extend his championship advantage.

The 19-year-old Italian now holds a 66-point lead in the world championship standings over Lewis Hamilton, who finished second for Ferrari.

Hamilton moved into second place overall, sitting two points ahead of George Russell after Russell failed to score points.

The race was heavily impacted by pit lane speeding penalties, which affected five different drivers.

Alongside Russell and Hamilton, Pierre Gasly, Oscar Piastri, and Franco Colapinto were penalized for exceeding the pit lane speed limit after marginally cutting the entry measurement line.

"I can't believe I am second in the championship," said Hamilton. "It is still very early days in the season and we have to keep chasing.

It is actually easier to chase than it is to defend and while these guys [Mercedes] are very quick, we are going to keep pushing, keep chasing and I have no doubt that at some stage we will get that [Ferrari win]."

Hamilton expressed confidence in his trajectory with his new team despite the early dominance of the championship leader.

"Kimi is doing a phenomenal job but it just encourages me to level up and it encourages everyone else to level up, too.

I am going to do my best to try and chase him down for the rest of the year," said Hamilton.
