Aston Martin driver Fernando Alonso secured his first championship point of the season at the Monaco Grand Prix on June 8, 2026.

Starting from 21st place, he finished 10th after post-race penalties reshuffled the final order.

The veteran Spaniard made an aggressive start, overtaking Gabriel Bortoleto, Max Verstappen, Valtteri Bottas, and Oliver Bearman on the opening lap to move up to 17th.

His teammate Lance Stroll, starting 22nd, advanced to 18th after early pit stops from rivals.

Positions improved further on Lap 9 when Sergio Perez served a drive-through penalty, lifting Alonso and Stroll to 16th and 17th.

They held steady until Lando Norris retired on Lap 45, promoting the Aston Martin drivers to 15th and 16th.

The race shifted dramatically on Lap 60 when Stroll crashed at the final corner and retired, triggering a Safety Car.

Charles Leclerc suffered a similar retirement at the same turn, prompting a red flag for track repairs.

A standing restart on Lap 71 saw Alonso overtake Franco Colapinto, though he briefly lost the spot to Perez at Turn 6.

Alonso reclaimed 13th when Nico Hulkenberg made contact with Carlos Sainz, who slowed due to damage.

George Russell served a drive-through penalty on Lap 73, elevating Alonso to 12th by the chequered flag.

Stewards later issued 10-second penalties to Hulkenberg and Perez, promoting Alonso to 10th.

"I took a lot of risk on lap one and at the restart, and just tried to consolidate whatever position we were in," said Alonso.

"It was so difficult out there today, but we went aggressive with the strategy...

The red flag restart helped, and we made sure to take the opportunities that were available to us."
