George Boughey's Bow Echo is set to face Aidan O'Brien's Gstaad in the St James's Palace Stakes on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, the opening day of Royal Ascot.

The Group One race features a field of six runners after French Guineas winner Rayif was omitted from the final declarations.

Bow Echo enters as the expected favorite following his previous victory over Gstaad at Newmarket.

Gstaad, however, has since secured a win in the Irish 2,000 Guineas at the Curragh.

Boughey's Strategy for Bow Echo

Boughey opted to skip the Irish classic to prepare his colt directly for this engagement.

"He was doing a nice piece of work on the Friday morning some horses were shipping over to Ireland and having a hard race, so he's been able to build up and hopefully peak on Tuesday," Boughey explained.

The trainer emphasized a long-term approach. "It's a long game with this horse, I hope.

He's a horse who is going to keep on improving, there's big days ahead of him," he said.

Boughey added, "I would have fancied him on the day knowing how he worked on the Friday morning, but I thought for the longevity of the horse it was more important that he had the break."

O'Brien will also field juvenile dual Group One winner Puerto Rico alongside Gstaad.

The field includes Charlie Appleby's Heron Stakes winner Talk Of New York, Power Blue, and Lord Britain.
