The government statement concluded with a message emphasizing the broader diplomatic and social values associated with international soccer tournaments.

"May the beautiful game of football continue to live up to its reputation of uniting nations, forging lasting bonds of friendship, playing by the rules, and promoting fair play both on and off the field," said Ghana's government.

Canadian immigration authorities responded to the legal challenge by clarifying that standard border entry requirements remain unchanged during international sporting competitions.

"Hosting major events does not change Canada's immigration laws and decisions are made on a case-by-case basis," said Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada in a statement released Friday.

The federal department reiterated that all international travelers undergo the same statutory evaluation process regardless of their athletic status.

"Every person seeking to come to Canada is assessed individually, based on the facts available and the law that applies," said Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada.

Partey played for Arsenal in the English Premier League from 2020 to 2025 before transferring to Spanish club Villarreal this past season.
