Major League Baseball issued formal warnings to multiple San Francisco Giants players after they inscribed religious messages on their uniforms during a team event, league officials confirmed on June 15, 2026.

The disciplinary action followed a Friday night game against the Chicago Cubs where several pitchers altered their team caps, which featured a rainbow-colored logo.

League officials stated that the notifications were standard enforcement of apparel policies rather than a targeted reaction to the specific nature of the messages.

Player's Explanation

Giants starting pitcher Landen Roupp addressed his decision to write a Bible verse reference on his headwear following the conclusion of the game.

"It's just about God's covenant and a promise that he makes to us that, you know, his faithfulness and his mercy," said Roupp.

"That's just kind of something I believe in, and I stand firm in that, and I'm thankful we live in a country where, you know, we have the freedom to believe what we want ...

and express what we want."

The uniform alterations drew criticism from various sportswriters before the league officially intervened to enforce its dress code.

"There's no hate at all. It's just what I stand for, and what I stand in.

I believe in God," added Roupp.

According to a report by The Athletic, league management contacted the involved players regarding the uniform infraction.
