Dutch speed skater Kjeld Nuis questioned the physical conditioning of the Netherlands national football team during Tuesday's broadcast of Vandaag Inside Oranje, leading to a sharp exchange with football pundit Johan Derksen.
Nuis expressed doubts about the squad's fitness following their 2-2 group stage draw against Japan in Dallas at the 2026 World Cup, arguing the team operated at an insufficient pace.

"I found the tempo quite low," Nuis analyzed on the show.
The multi-time Olympic medalist questioned why the Dutch struggled to break down their opponents and rejected the notion that Japan's defensive style made it impossible to play.
"I'm not a football expert, but why can't you play against Japan?" Nuis asked.
He also criticized the justification that players were exhausted late in the match. "I heard the commentator say the tempo dropped.
But it's the 83rd minute. Why?
You're supposed to play 90 minutes. So make sure you can handle that conditionally," Nuis stated.
Derksen strongly rejected Nuis' analysis, countering that Japan's tactical setup limited the team's offensive space, not poor conditioning.
"You're really talking like a cyclist now," Derksen countered.

Nuis stood by his evaluation. "I know, but I was asked what I thought.
Well, this is what I think!" he replied.
Derksen explained that a defense dropping behind the ball deprives attackers of space, making strategies like long balls or a target striker exhausting.
