Austria secured a 3-1 victory over World Cup debutants Jordan in their Group J opener, marking their return to the tournament after a 28-year absence.

Romano Schmid put Austria ahead in the 20th minute with a powerful strike.

Jordan equalized five minutes into the second half through forward Ali Olwan, who fired a sharp shot inside the far post.
