The Washington Wizards selected forward A. J.
Dybantsa as the first overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft on June 24, 2026.
The reigning champion New York Knicks acquired Spanish point guard Sergio de Larrea with the 25th selection.
Dybantsa, a physical forward from BYU, led a top draft class.
Darryn Peterson went second overall to the Wizards, and Cameron Boozer was selected third by the Memphis Grizzlies.
The selection of the 20-year-old De Larrea by the Knicks emerged as a major first-round surprise.
The 1.98-meter Valencia Basket playmaker was recently named MVP of the Supercopa and selected as the top young player in the Spanish domestic league regular season.
De Larrea missed the draft ceremony in person due to his ongoing participation with Valencia Basket in the Liga Endesa finals against Barcelona at the Palau Blaugrana.
The prospect will evaluate over the coming days whether to move to the NBA this October or remain in Spain for an additional season.
