Edmonton is bracing for a day of thunderstorms and heavy rainfall on June 30, 2026, as unstable weather systems move through the region.

Residents are advised to adjust outdoor plans due to the risk of localized flooding.

According to The Weather Network, the day will begin with morning thunderstorms accompanied by high humidity. Temperatures will start near 17°C with light winds.

The wet conditions follow a historic multi-day precipitation event.

Environment Canada recorded 57 millimeters of rain over a single weekend, pushing the monthly total to a record-breaking 262 millimeters by June 28, 2026.

Meteorologist Janelle Gergely noted that this volume is more than triple the typical June average of less than 79 millimeters.

The excess runoff is straining local infrastructure.

Afternoon Storm Risks

Atmospheric instability will peak during the afternoon as temperatures climb to 23°C, sustaining storm development across the city.

Cloud cover will dominate the sky.

The persistent precipitation threat follows an Orange Warning for heavy rainfall issued during previous evening cycles.

That warning previously triggered severe localized flooding and trapped several residents in the southeast Jubilee Landing community.

Weather systems are expected to ease gradually by the evening as temperatures cool to 21°C.

However, local authorities advise caution while driving due to slick road surfaces and lingering low-level storm risks.
