Montreal's municipal services, public transit networks, and retail businesses will operate on adjusted schedules on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, in observance of Canada Day.
City officials confirmed that regular collection schedules for garbage, recycling, compost, and other waste materials will remain unchanged.

Ecocentres and Consignaction recycling centres will also maintain standard operating hours.
City permit counters, Accès Montréal offices, and Montreal’s municipal court will be closed for the day, though court services will still handle arraignments for detained individuals.
Local libraries will shut down on Wednesday, and the Grande Bibliothèque of the Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec will also close.
Most city pools plan to open under modified holiday schedules.
Recreational venues such as the Biodôme, Biosphère, Montreal Botanical Garden, Insectarium, Planetarium, and La Ronde amusement park will welcome visitors during the holiday.
Public markets including Atwater, Jean-Talon, and Maisonneuve will remain open, as will most pharmacies, dépanneurs, and grocery stores like PA, Metro, IGA, and Maxi.

However, Costco and Walmart locations will close.
Most standard retail stores and large shopping malls will shut their doors, though select restaurants attached to shopping centers plan to stay open.
The Société des alcools du Québec (SAQ) will close most outlets, keeping only its Express-branded stores and select locations open.
All Société québécoise du cannabis (SQDC) dispensaries will close.
The Société de transport de Montréal (STM) buses and métro lines will run on holiday schedules.
Exo commuter trains will follow Sunday schedules, resulting in no service on the Mont-St-Hilaire, Candiac, and Mascouche lines, while Exo buses will use Saturday schedules.

Parking meters remain active, and standard parking restrictions will be enforced throughout the city despite the statutory holiday.
