French tennis player Arthur Fils is set to make his career-first Grand Slam Centre Court appearance at Wimbledon on Thursday, July 2, 2026.

The 20th seed will face 2021 finalist Matteo Berrettini in the second round.

Fils entered the main draw after defeating Belgium's Loïc Collignon in the opening round.

The match marks his return to Grand Slam competition since a stress fracture in his back forced him to withdraw from Roland-Garros 2025.

According to reports from FFT, the encounter represents a significant milestone for the young French athlete.

Under the guidance of coach Goran Ivanisevic, Fils transitions from smaller courts to the historic venue after the conclusion of women's singles champion Iga Swiatek's second-round match.

Berrettini's Grass Court Pedigree

Berrettini brings extensive experience on London grass, having reached the final in 2021 where he won the opening set against Novak Djokovic before losing in four sets.

The Italian recently competed in the quarterfinals of Roland-Garros and defeated Stan Wawrinka in his opening grass match.

The physical and tactical matchup poses specific challenges for Fils. Berrettini's powerful serving, fast forehand tracking, and effective backhand slice on grass are key weapons.

“Matteo on grass is always very complicated,” said Fils.

Tennis analyst Eric Salliot from RMC Sport noted that both players experienced frustration during their recent Roland-Garros campaigns.

This creates an open and highly anticipated contest driven by tight strategic details and long baseline rallies.
