Apple is changing a long-standing user habit in its upcoming iOS 27 operating system.
The top-center swipe-down gesture, traditionally used for the Notification Center, will now activate the new Siri AI assistant.

According to reports from 9to5Mac and Cult of Mac, the interface modification is inactive by default.
It triggers automatically once users enable the upgraded Siri AI system on compatible iPhones and iPads.
New Gesture Layout
Under the new layout, swiping down from the center of the upper display edge summons the Siri AI interface.
Access to notifications shifts exclusively to the top-left corner of the screen.
Apple adjusted the interface dimensions between its first two developer beta releases.

The Notification Center on the left and the Control Center on the right now have roughly equal zones, with the central Siri activation area in between.
The tech giant previously announced that the first iOS 27 public beta will become available for free download in July 2026 via the Apple Beta Software Program website.
MacRumors reported that the upcoming software update is compatible with the iPhone 11 and newer models.
However, specific Apple Intelligence features remain limited to the iPhone 15 Pro and subsequent versions.
Beyond the voice assistant overhaul, iOS 27 introduces Liquid Glass design enhancements, independent alarm volume controls, expanded child safety features, and a redesigned lock screen interface for media playback.

The official public release of iOS 27 is scheduled for fall 2026, coinciding with the debut of Apple's latest iPhone models.
