A new nonfiction book about Donald Trump's second term sold more than 300,000 copies in its first week, defying a slump in political publishing.

Titled "Regime Change: Inside the Imperial Presidency of Donald Trump," the book was written by New York Times reporters Maggie Haberman and Jonathan Swan and published by Simon & Schuster.

The sales figures include preorders, print editions, ebooks, audiobooks, and unfulfilled orders due to high demand, according to the publisher.

Record-Breaking Sales

The opening week performance is the highest for any hardcover nonfiction book in 2026.

Simon & Schuster ordered a third printing of 200,000 additional copies after retail outlets and Amazon sold out.

The book covers military decisions, the use of the Justice Department against political rivals, and Trump's White House restructuring.

It argues that losing the 2020 election ultimately strengthened his second term.

BookScan data from last month showed sales for politics and current affairs titles had dropped 19 percent compared to the previous year, making this book's success an anomaly.

Trump, who has a long history with Haberman, dismissed the book after receiving a brief summary. The authors have promoted the release on news talk shows.

Simon & Schuster executives expressed confidence in the book's relevance amid current political dialogue. Literary agents noted that while the political genre is cyclical, exceptional titles can still dominate.
