Sports agent Rich Paul revealed on July 3, 2026, that LeBron James is prioritizing personal fulfillment as he evaluates multiple NBA teams for his 24th professional season.
The superstar initially considered staying with the Los Angeles Lakers before deciding to test the open market, according to Paul.

During an appearance on a basketball discussion show hosted by Max Kellerman, Paul said he asked James about his ultimate objective.
“The answer was happiness,” Paul stated.
Paul outlined several potential destinations, noting a specific condition for the New York Knicks. “There would be no board.
He’d be going to the Knicks,” Paul said, but only if point guard Jalen Brunson personally approves the move.
Brunson would need to “pick up the phone and say it’s no issue with me with you joining,” Paul added.

Cavaliers and Other Options
The Cleveland Cavaliers remain a strong option due to deep organizational ties, including assistant general manager Brandon Weems, whom Paul called “basically like LeBron’s brother.”
Paul clarified that James’ preferences regarding potential teammates were not a slight on other players. “Nothing against James Harden,” he said.
James holds high admiration for young guards like Darius Garland and Philadelphia 76ers star Tyrese Maxey. “LeBron loves Maxey,” Paul noted.
Additional teams under consideration include the Miami Heat, Minnesota Timberwolves, Golden State Warriors, Denver Nuggets, Boston Celtics, San Antonio Spurs, and Dallas Mavericks.
