Osaka's victory marked her first win over a top-ranked player since 2019 and halted a three-match losing streak against Sabalenka this year.

"It's been a long time since I've had so much fun on the court," Osaka said. "And to do it here, it really means a lot."

The Japanese star put 87 percent of her first serves in play and recorded 21 winners, compared to Sabalenka's 15.

Sabalenka, who had previously defeated Osaka at the French Open this year, expressed frustration after the loss, saying she wanted to quit tennis.

On the men's side, Novak Djokovic beat Roman Safiullin 7-6 (6), 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, earning his 106th match victory at the All England Club.
