The England national football team has officially adopted Oasis' 1995 hit "Wonderwall" as their post-match victory anthem for the 2026 World Cup in the United States.

According to ESPN, FIFA asked participating nations to submit songs to be played after wins.

England submitted several tracks, including "Sweet Caroline" and "Hey Jude," but the Britpop ballad secured the top spot after fans gave an enthusiastic response following a 4-2 group stage victory over Croatia in Dallas.

The tradition has continued through subsequent matches, including a scoreless draw against Ghana and a late comeback win against DR Congo.

Players stand together on the field while supporters chant the lyrics.

Captain Harry Kane described the moment as one of his "favourite ever moments in an England shirt," highlighting the emotional connection with fans.

Midfielder Declan Rice called the experience "special," adding, "Being in Dallas, singing 'Wonderwall.' There's nothing like that first time."

Oasis members have expressed differing opinions on the use of the track, which debuted 31 years before the tournament.

Vocalist Liam Gallagher wrote on X, "Wonderwall belongs to the people, and it was a magical moment between the people and the players."

He added, "And rightly so it's a f**king classic, and I sound BIBLICAL on it."

Songwriter Noel Gallagher admitted surprise that younger players like Jude Bellingham know the lyrics, calling it "a great moment."

However, he had previously questioned the song's suitability for football celebrations, wondering why teams didn't choose heavier rock tracks like "Rock And Roll Star."
