Anthony Gordon believes his football intelligence was undervalued in England before he joined Barcelona from Newcastle United this summer.
The England forward, 25, made the move to Spain in a deal worth around £69 million and has provided five assists in seven appearances.
In an interview with ITV Football, Gordon said his qualities are now better appreciated at a club where technical skill and intelligence are highly valued.
"I always felt in England, people respected me because I was fast and I pressed but they never actually respected the quality and IQ that I play with," he said.
He added that only the players he plays with seemed to notice those qualities, and that at Barcelona a different style has highlighted them more.
Gordon said people are starting to take notice that he is not just quick.
He explained that in England he was seen mainly as fast and aggressive, while in Spain his IQ and quality are appreciated because Barcelona demands technical and smart players.
Role in Barcelona's Attack
Gordon has often featured in Barcelona's front three alongside Raphinha and Lamine Yamal.
He credited head coach Hansi Flick's tactical approach for allowing his other skills to be showcased.
"I think they're starting to [respect me more]," he said, adding that it can still happen more.
He noted that at Newcastle, a really intense running team, his running and aggression were always on show, while at Barcelona he plays an opposite style that lets his other qualities appear.
Last season, Gordon scored 17 goals for Newcastle, his best career return.
He left the club alongside several key players and head coach Eddie Howe during the summer transfer window.
On his decision to leave England, Gordon said he wanted to leave the Premier League and wanted a different experience.
He felt he had more than what people thought of him and wanted to show that on the world's biggest stage, calling going abroad very important for him.
Gordon earned his 26th senior England cap in the recent match against Spain, where he scored a second-half equalizer in a 3-2 defeat at Wembley.
He appears to have secured a spot as Thomas Tuchel's starting left winger for England.
England is scheduled to play against Czechia on Tuesday, followed by matches against Croatia and a return fixture with Czechia in early October.
